“Blakhiyah” is one of Palestine's most ancient seaports, historically known as Anthedon by famous Greek and Roman historians. In 1995, the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem began excavating on the site, but all was halted since 2005. This year, SAK funded the continuation of the excavation process, and the team with the Ecole Biblique experts were able to unearth ancient Roman barracks and Gaza's ancient city wall as shown in the picture
At a different site, existing in the old city of Gaza we purchased and renovated a 850m, 400-year old house in 2011. Based on an old map of Gaza, we discovered that the house used to belong to one of Gaza's Ottoman rulers, and was accordingly called Dar al-Basha (shown at the right and left pictures).
